Foot mobilisation therapy or FMT is a specifically developed form of manual therapy aimed at improving foot and leg function, as it targets joints of the foot and ankle that have become restricted, misaligned or dysfunctional. The manipulations used as part of FMT break down connective tissue adhesions within joints of reduced mobility. This allows the body’s natural healing process to be activated, which in turn increases overall healing times and return to normal joint function.
Other benefits of FMT are posture becoming more stable by improving body’s balancing system, surrounding muscles becoming stronger due to increased nerve stimulation and overall reduction of pain within the feet and associated joints.
FMT can be used in combination with orthotic therapy and in some cases all together eliminate the need for orthotic therapy. Whilst this therapy is suited to many individuals it may be of particular use to those individuals who are looking for pain relief without having to sacrifice their footwear choices.
